James Chatto

Senior Editor, Food and Drink

Award-winning author, journalist, and editor James Chatto has lived many lives. As a young man he was an actor, singer and saxophonist in England, before retiring at 26 to grow olives and make his own wine in Greece. He moved to Toronto and began writing about food in 1987, and hasn't stopped since. Now, he finds increasingly new ways to combine alcohol with history and geography. His articles on the historical origin of the French 75 and themed cocktails to celebrate the top countries playing Olympic women's soccer in 2024 demonstrates his innovative ways of looking at a topic.

Daphne Santos-Vieira

Editor, CBC Books

Montreal-based Daphne Santos-Vieira is a content editor for CBC Books and the coordinator for the CBC Literary Prizes. Her content mainly focusses on thematic book roundups (such as swoon-worthy Canadian summer romances and books to make your heart flutter for Valentine's Day) and connecting with the writing community to encourage submissions for CBC's various writing contests through the year.

Elamin Abdelmahmoud

Host, CBC's Commotion and culture writer

Elamin Abdelmahmoud is a radio and podcast host and journalist who occasionally contributes to Cottage Life. His most recent work there analyzes the almost impossibly-large size of Canada and questions if it is an asset or liability to our nation. He is writing a novel titled Elbows Up!: Canadian Voices of Resilience and Resistance, coming out in October.
